Associate Dean of Research Promotion Division of Waseda U., outside directors of SYSTEM INFORMATION and eXmotion. We will make projects larger and more internationalized. We deepen *future* software engineering for systems, business, and society in the dynamic and uncertain era by integrating AI/ML into software development and operation. Furthermore, we will work on additional external funds. We will conduct 7+ industry-supported projects in addition to the following: Smart SE, Goal-oriented Digital Business Strategies, Machine Learning Requirements Engineering Framework and ML Design Patterns (funded by JST MIRAI eAI and JSPS Mutual), Data-driven NLP and ML-based software maintenance and evolution (funded by JSPS KAKENHI), SSR security, cloud, and IoT software engineering, and K-12 STEM Education.

Projects

2022: We successfully conducted 15+ projects, including funded and industry-supported ones. SmartSE DX course has been accepted for MEXT fund.

2023: We deepen *future* software engineering for systems, business, and society in the dynamic and uncertain era by integrating AI/ML into software development and operation. We will conduct 7+ industry-supported projects in addition to the following. We will make projects larger and more internationalized.

  • Smart SE: Smart Systems and Services innovative professional Education program since 2017. Advanced and practical education program and related research collaboration network in AI, IoT, and DX involving 5000+ companies. Agreement with Ishikawa prefecture and Komatsu to continue to have the program at Kanazawa.
  • Goal-oriented Digital Business Strategies: We held the research WG on Business Strategies and Requirements at the Smart SE consortium.
  • Machine Learning Requirements Engineering Framework and ML Design Patterns (funded by JST MIRAI eAI and JSPS Mutual): Developing requirements engineering framework for ML applications and design patterns.
  • Data-driven NLP and ML-based software maintenance and evolution (funded by JSPS KAKENHI): Developing framework for NLP/ML-based maintenance and evolution, including program repair.
  • SSR security, cloud, and IoT software engineering: Organizing security patterns, IoT patterns, and related research.
  • K-12 STEM Education: ICT club activities and workshops on introductory programming and related research.

Achievements (List of publications)

2022: We published 9 papers at prestigious journals and magazines, including IEEE Computer and Cybersecurity. We presented 15 international conference and workshop papers and posters and got 1 acceptance. We published 4 books, 1 book chapter, 3 magazine articles. Prof. Washizaki presented around 30 keynotes and invited talks. Our activities have been reported frequently in many news media, including Nikkei Newspaper and DIAMOND Harvard Business Review. Prof. Washizaki received awards incl. . Furthermore, students received awards incl. DX Innovation Challenge 3rd Prize and JASA Special Award, and ACM-ICPC World Finals Honors. We achieved the goal stated on last January but have to do better and more in 2022 by making projects large and more internationalized.

2023: We will push forward with research on smart, novel, and actionable software and systems engineering methods and tools based on well-defined and validated theory to contribute to the software and systems engineering industry and academia in collaboration with 10+ local and global partners. We continue to acquire significant funds and make projects internationalized. We aim to publish impactful papers at better places: at least 7 journal papers and 20 international conference papers. Many of our research achievements in the form of methods, practices, and tools shall be continuously used and produce actual values through our local and global partners.
