Hello, everyone. I am Hironori Washizaki. I am currently serving as President-Elect of the IEEE Computer Society, one of the largest computing societies in the world. And I will be President in 2025. I am pleased that you can join us in leading the activities of this historic society to advance innovation in computing and information processing technologies, the associated community activities, and contributions to humanity through them. Thank you for your support and encouragement in the election.

I am pleased to send you a message of call for nominations, based on my experience, for the positions of Board of Governors’ Members, Vice President, and President, which lead the activities of the Computer Society as a whole globally.
I have been active in the Japan Chapter of the Computer Society since 2011, where I have served as Secretary and Chair, and have worked with various societies and communities involved in information processing in Japan, as well as promoting activities such as awards and recognition. After that, I have had the opportunity to serve on the Professional and Educational Activities Board since 2017, where I have been working mainly on the development of the Guide to the Software Engineering Body of Knowledge (SWEBOK Guide), which systematizes the knowledge in software engineering and leading development of educational programs.
Through these activities, I have come to realize that I want to advance the systematization of bodies of knowledge, digital open science, education, and the next technological innovations. Based on these activities, I wish to advance industry-academia-government-community collaborations linked to such innovations and maximize the engagement of the next generation, the future professionals. And I want to promote these efforts on a deeper, broader, and global scale. I have concluded that the Board of Governors, which leads the activities of the entire Computer Society on a worldwide scale, is the best place for this. So, I ran for the Board of Governors and have served on the Board since 2021.

The Computer Society’s Board of Directors includes myself and other professionals from around the world committed to changing the world today and in the future through computing and information processing technologies. We are diverse people of different generations, genders, regions, cultures, and specialties. This is because diversity is essential in today’s highly uncertain world to sustainably advance innovation and related community activities to address complex and unanswerable global issues, such as sustainability and how AI and people can work together. The fact that I have been allowed to serve on the Board of Directors and as President of the Computer Society, which is headquartered in the U.S. and operates in Asia and Japan, is due not only to the recognition of my past activities and vision for the future but also to the diversity aspect.

Computer Society activities are not something that someone orders you to do. On the contrary, we are a place where you can realize your ideas about how you want future computing and community activities to be and how you want the next generation of future computing leaders to be energized and inspired by your actions. We look forward to your nomination to the Board of Governors, which will lead the entire activity. Together at Computer Society, let us make a difference and contribute to the next innovation in information processing technology and humanity.
